Greetings from home!
I hope this greets you happy and healthy and that you’ve had the chance to enjoy some much needed sunshine.
I think we are all looking at the silent heroes that are keeping the fabric of our communities together in a new light right now. Grocery clerks, truckers, health care workers, teachers…..we are grateful for them all. These amazing individuals all deserve way more than a mere “thank you” .
Which is why, though we are saddened that we can’t get together for this quarter’s meeting, it has been heartening to learn that some of you have made donations to our local food bank and our local hospital foundation.
If you haven’t had time to send a donation…..it’s not too late.
You can drop off a cheque to any of your favourite frontline charities and we will be certain to deliver it. They can be dropped off to Lana at Port Perry Print (201 North Street) or to Margie at Big Brother and Big Sisters of North Durham (15585 Simcoe Street).
In the meantime, stay safe.
February 5, 2019: Congratulations Port Perry Hospital Foundation – $3,842
Another great meeting. Another great charity chosen.
Congratulations to the the Port Perry Hospital Foundation for their successful pitch last night. We had three very strong pitches and, though the votes were close, the appeal from the local hospital for a contribution towards their cancer care equipment seemed to speak to us. Well done!
A very special thanks must go out to our new members who joined us last night, as well as to our present members. We are strong because each of you carve this out of your busy schedules each time and show up to support these worthy charities. Let’s keep it going as we edge towards the $100 000 mark. We can do this!
For those who were unable to attend, please drop off your cheques at Janet McGhee ‘s office (1595 Hwy 7A).
October 2, 2018: Congratulations Emmanuel Community Church Youth Drop in Centre – $3,935
Another great meeting. Another great charity chosen!! Congratulations to the the Emmanuel Church Youth Drop- In for their successful pitch last night. The Drop-In has become a draw for many local teens who have been searching for structure – both social and personal – in our community. It was heartwarming and inspiring to hear the contribution that one small group has made to local youth.
Thanks go out to Dave Robinson from Scugog Remembers for bringing the posters that will be displayed throughout Scugog commemorating the contribution of local heroes on the 100-year anniversary of Armistice. They, along with the projector that will be used in the library during the celebration, will make a lasting impression of the generosity that a few women can make. Powerful!
Finally, thank you to everyone who made it out to the meeting last night. We are strong because you show up and you support these worthy charities. Let’s keep it going because our numbers make us stronger.
June 5, 2018: Congratulations Scugog Remembers – $4,667
Congratulations to last night’s cheque recipient…….Scugog Remembers! Scugog Remembers is a local initiative that was set up to commemorate the contribution that our local vets have made to war efforts for the past 100 years. They will be directing their funds towards several celebrations that will kick off this fall. It is truly our honour to support them.
Special thanks also go out to our other nominees – Nova’s Ark and the NICU unit at Lakeridge Health – for their eloquent campaigns. Those of you who attend (and who have pitched before) know only too well just how tough it is to get up there and speak from your heart and last night was no exception. Everyone should be commended for the fabulous jobs that they do time and time again.
Thanks again for supporting these worthy charities. We cannot do it without you. And welcome to our new members! Thanks for being a part of the generosity wave.

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS
Register as an individual member (or team of 2-4) by completing the Membership Commitment and return it to our office by email, fax or mail. Full instructions can be found at the bottom of the registration form.
As an individual member (or team) you must commit to donating $100 per meeting. There are 3 meetings per year lasting 1 hour in length.
Each individual member (or team) will submit a Charity Nomination Form to nominate an organization of their choice for consideration. Forms must be received at least 1 month prior to the next scheduled meeting. This will allow the member or team time to prepare their presentation themselves or involve someone from the charity.
Three charities/organizations will be randomly chosen at each meeting. The member or team that nominated that charity/organization will have an opportunity to make a 5 minute presentation about their chosen charity to the group. They may also involve someone from the nominated charity to speak on their behalf. There will also be a 5min Q&A period after each presentation. Note: You do have the option not to nominate a charity if you so desire but you must fulfill your $100 commitment per meeting.
After the three charities have been presented, each individual member (or team) will vote for one of the three chosen charities. Note: You are allowed 1 vote per individual member (or team).
After all votes are tallied, each individual member (or team) will write a cheque totalling $100 to the organization receiving the most votes and the selected organization will receive a total donation of $10,000!
